This is my fifth year to be a chef with the 100 Men Who Cook and I consider it an honor to participate and contribute to such a worthy cause as the Prevention of Violence in our community.

At today’s first meeting, we found out some small changes to this year’s event and were told of the importance of our participation. ONB is clearly thankful for everyone’s participation, and I am honored to be one of a very few 6 Year Chefs (with MUCH help from my beautiful wife, Nancy). Today, I was impressed by Jack Surface, owner of Midas of Muncie, and him impassioned plea and challenge to the Chefs. “I am very competitive,” he said, and “I don’t like to lose at anything,” but “I want you all to beat me – because that means the community wins.”
Buy tickets. Attend and eat. Bring some folding money. Make a difference.

As a Muncie native, I have enjoyed working the 100 Men Who Cook events, as they have benefited organizations focused on improving the quality of life for members of our community. I have lived in Muncie nearly my entire life, and take pride in working as a mental health counselor for A Better Way Services, Inc.; a two-time beneficiary of the fundraiser. My personal interests include exercising, reading, playing board games, spending time with family and friends, and working on home-improvement projects.

A former paramedic turned IT System Administrator, I have a secret passion for cooking. Taking different ingredients and turning them into healthy, tasty meals for my wife and children motivates me to experiment in the kitchen. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, hunting, and training my dogs.

I hate to lose! I Don’t get mad when I lose but I feel so much better when I win! With the 100 Men Who Cook event, if we all fight to be the winner then the real winner is the women and children that we can help! So I challenge all the Chefs beat me this year, cause I don’t mind losing to the real winners! Think outside the box!
I’m a Muncie native who returned home after years away following my career in broadcasting. Luckily I was able to take my love for my career and bring it back home to Muncie where I have been Program director and on air host for WMDH/NASH FM 102.5 ever since.
I have a son, Chaston, who is 12 and is my favorite person in the entire world.
I am a member of the Class of 1995 at Muncie Southside, attended Indiana University in Bloomington and have been blessed at various times to have lived in New York, Florida, Georgia, Vermont and around Indiana… but I’m back home now!

Jim Needham has been building up to this event since his first devil’s food cake spilled over his baking pan into his mother’s gas oven at age 10. He admits making a mess by over-filling the baking pan, but he was hooked. He cleaned it all up before mom came home, and “all’s well that ends well.” He turned tragedy into triumph by stacking the short layer on top of the tall layer, cleaned and slathered his creation with bright blue icing. Jim says it was a delicious cake, if unconventional, though no one even tried it because of the icing. He hopes this year’s effort at 100 Men Who Cook will give his guests something extraordinary to remember his gustatory exploits by.
